Microsoft will soon launch Outlook Lite app for Android
Lighter versions of several apps exist that allow them to run on low-end smartphones and in areas with low internet connectivity. Our list includes Google Go app, Facebook Lite and more. Microsoft is preparing to launch a 'lite' version of Outlook for Android.
Creating the Outlook Lite app
Microsoft recently updated its Microsoft 365 roadmap and we may get mention of an Outlook Lite app for Android. It will basically bring Outlook features in a relatively small app form for RAM-less phones.
The description of the app reads, "An Android app that brings the core benefits of Outlook in a small app format with fast performance for low-end devices on any network."
The Outlook Lite app will be available to the general public worldwide. This means that an official announcement will come soon and then we will know more about the app.
However, this is not the first time that Microsoft is thinking of launching a lightweight variant of Outlook on Android. A report by Dr.Windows suggests that an Outlook Lite app already exists but is limited to select countries. The app is mentioned in various Microsoft documents, including a full FAQ section.
The page reveals that the current Outlook Lite app only supports personal Outlook, Live, Hotmail and MSN accounts and allows users to log in to one account. It is recommended that support for third-party accounts such as Gmail will come in the future The report also mentions that Outlook Lite has more or less the same functionality as the original Outlook app on Android and is faster.
This newly updated roadmap likely means that Microsoft is preparing a new version of the Outlook Lite app with a wider reach and more added features. But it remains to be seen when the app becomes official for us. We'll keep you in the loop for that, so stay tuned.
