WhatsApp is testing a new "unread chat" filter on desktop

WhatsApp is known for testing a lot of features before finally rolling them out to people. From new multi-device capabilities to upgraded message responses, we can see many new features this year. And now, the Meta-owned messaging platform has been spotted testing a new chat filter for desktop users to help organize their chats more. See details below!

WhatsApp tests new filters on desktop

According to a recent report by WABetaInfo (via XDA ), WhatsApp has introduced the unread chat filter as part of its latest update to the beta version of its desktop client, taking the version number to 2.2221.1. This new filter allows users to easily isolate unread chats on the platform.

The feature appeared right next to the search bar in the WhatsApp beta for desktop. It works like other filters, hiding read messages and bringing unread chats into the spotlight. There is also a single-click button to clear the filter. You can preview the new unread filter on WhatsApp in the screenshot attached below.

This is definitely a welcome addition to the platform that will enable users to easily manage their chat list and take notice of unread messages that they missed earlier. In fact, WhatsApp can improve the feature by adding other filter options. Currently, there are multiple chat filters available in the app on Android and iOS, but the unread chat filter is still missing. However, it is expected to reach mobile users as well.

Now, coming to availability, the new unread filter is currently only available in WhatsApp beta for desktop. It is also unclear whether WhatsApp is rolling out the feature gradually, starting with specific beta testers, or rolling it out to all testers. Additionally, we don't know when or if the filter will make its way into WhatsApp's mobile app. So, we suggest you to stay tuned for more updates regarding the same.
